16Sun May 1, 11OC (Orange County)United States of America   (california - costa mesa)26.2 mi05:22:3925
OC (Orange County): Started off dandy as I forgot my d-tag chip! Was hard to find where to go for info as there was no info booth. Had to find RD at very head of race so that all was a little unnerving, but it all seemed to be straightened out easily enough. The course was generally nice, with some pretty wvater-front views, but after the half, organization & views drastically decreased! Mile markers after 13 or 14 disappeared, & did not reappear until mile 18, which was marked as 17! Mismarking continued for 2 mile & at that point in the race, it is just cruel to have a mile "stolen" from you! But then the miles straightened out at 20, and even seemed a little short. went through some trails, more streets, then the grand finish at the Fair! Wind ended up not being a big deal & for a few miles was definitely "at our backs," pushing us :-) Heat was also not as bad as expected, perhaps because i dressed light. Got my best time since Nov '09! Saw Charlie after race, as well as renee, rocco, jim, and yolanda, joe & mike L on course.lots of ppl from my dept (all non-maniacs haha) were also running (half) so saw lots of familiar faces! pretty good day
17Sun Mar 27, 11Oakland MarathonUnited States of America   (california)26.2 mi05:32:3024
Oakland Marathon: My 60th, & the crowd couldn't have been friendlier! Cops, citizens, everyone was on their feet cheering loud..the best part of this race! Rolling hills, nothing too tough & even some good downhills. At around mile 19, there was this arch with flames around it--& right past they were giving out stickers that said "I ran through Fire today," which was cool! I particularly enjoyed miles 22-24ish, running around a lake saw Silver, endorphin dude at start, as well as Love to Run Donna (who I got to run with for a bit) & some new maniacs. Jeff was at the finish line to cheer me on as I came in, which was really cool & the announcer also read my name. got two post-run beers for free at the "beer garden" Good day
18Sun Mar 20, 11LA MarathonUnited States of America   (california - los angeles)26.2 mi05:34:4224
LA Marathon: sooo rainy! but it helped in an odd way: 1. numbed my legs to the fatigue a bit, so i felt less "pain" 2. made me speed up to get out of there! 3. "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" ? anyway, i suppose it was an appropriate way to spend my very last winter '11 marathon & welcome spring at 4:21pm! thanks to Jess for picking up my packet! nice to see Deo power-walking the course & Mad Hatter ED!
19Sat Mar 12, 11Rockin' the TrailUnited States of America   (california - la habra heights)26.2 mi06:39:4524

Antarctica BYO GPS Marathon: It was a 24 hr experience! Bulk of marathon-plus distance was done in the evening, from around 7pm-1am...actually very good hrs to run--if we had done it early in the morn it would have been cold & snowy! through the 24 hour frame we did 30 plus miles of running/walking (a little over 50k)- 3 finishers, around 7 starters. Met Dr. John here. had nasty limp through race, which didn't hurt, just made me favor one side (limp on left) and look odder than usual ;) toward end it had evened out more, i enjoyed the race overall :) 14th CA
30Sun Jan 10, 10First Light Mobile MarathonUnited States of America   (alabama - mobile)26.2 mi06:18:1323
First Light Mobile Marathon: Another pretty chilly day...but a much flatter course, and even hills- but going down! :D some of the roads were rough, which was kind tough on me, but the flat stretches, and the pretty parts thru the towns & university were marvelous. Great course support, and post & pre race were fun. On course I talked to a MM from KY, Nick, who I had seen the day before, and then also chatted with Larry & Laura for a bit on this one killer hill at mile 17. Yolanda & I were together for a couple miles again, and then slowly but surely I made my way thru the last 10K.

32Sun Jan 3, 10New Year's Resolution (Quadzilla Day 4)United States of America   (california - long beach)26.2 mi07:21:0023
New Year's Resolution (Quadzilla Day 4): I outdid myself again- slowest time ever! But it was my 4th marathon in a row, and I felt surprisingly good the whole way. Started at 4am-ish, marked the course, and just had a really good time once the other folks started, lots of friendly faces along the route & at the aid station. According to handy Garmin, jogging pace ranged from 11:50 up to 19 min, or 20+ walking, but was generally mid 13s...lots of time spent during each loop at aid station chatting slowed me down, but it was worth it! A very fun time! Lucky # 13 CA marathon. QUADZILLA complete!!! :D

Did Day 1 course again, since we started late/early again (and on NY) & wanted to be in a well-lit, safe area. Slowest time ever! :)
